Hours of Operation: 3:00 - 6:00pm, Monday through Friday
The Red Hill Academy After School Program (ASP) offers structured
therapeutic recreational and enrichment activities to all
participating students. For students in residence, the ASP
is a required and integral component of the overall service
offering. For day students, the ASP is optional and requires
an additional fee. For students from the local community in
need of a structured, supportive, and service-rich after school
experience, the ASP may be utilized as a standalone program
to provide support and enrichment to these students' local
public or private school experience. In addition to providing
therapeutic activities, the ASP also serves as an arena for
the delivery of a range of clinical
services. During the ASP, students will be organized into
groups of 12 consisting of both day and boarding students.
Each group will be assigned a Group Leader who will also serve
as case carrier and case manager for each assigned student.
Group Leaders facilitate skill building groups, athletic activities,
and other therapeutic recreational activities. Skill
building groups emphasize experiential
exercises designed to promote adaptive social functioning
with both peers and adults and the development of "friendship
skills." Drug and Alcohol education and abuse prevention
is an integral component of these skill building groups as
well.
Specific recreational components of the ASP include:
- Flag football, basketball, softball, and
track & field (instruction and league competition)
- Hiking, biking, swimming, and kayaking
- An equestrian program
- Martial arts instruction
- Exposure to local cultural events such
as theatre productions, art shows, and concerts.
The After School Program is further augmented by Enrichment
Specialists who provide adjunct services such as storytelling,
music instruction, multi-media/creative arts, and expressive
arts such as drama. The RHA Art Teacher is considered an enrichment
specialist in the after school program and provides additional
therapeutic art instruction in that context. Career counseling
is provided within the ASP as well.
