Our clinical programs are designed to improve self-esteem,
foster the development of pro-social attitudes and behaviors,
and to assist each student and family in achieving their identified
goals.
Core Services
Group therapy and family therapy are an integral part of the
Red Hill Academy program. These core services are delivered
by highly skilled and experienced Master's degree level therapists
in accordance with each student's care plan. Group Therapy
occurs three times per week and provides each student with
an opportunity to engage in problem-solving, conflict resolution,
and relationship-building exercises while developing greater
self-awareness, emotional stability, and an enhanced capacity
to meet life's challenges. Drug and Alcohol education and
abuse prevention is an integral component of all weekly therapy
groups. All students are afforded the benefit of participation
in four theme groups over the course of the extended school
year. Students are organized in groups of nine, and each group
rotates through the following therapy offerings on a quarterly
basis:
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy: This
evidence-based practice is designed to promote emotional
and behavioral stability.
- Building Self-Esteem: This group
addresses emotional issues such as depression and anxiety
and emphasizes self-awareness, self-care, and motivation.
- Building an Effective Support Network:
This group addresses social inhibition and isolation and
emphasizes a healthy, sustaining balance between autonomy
and relatedness.
- Meeting Life's Challenges: This
group addresses the connection between learning differences
and social/emotional functioning and emphasizes the fundamental
importance of pro-activity, perseverance, and effective
problem-solving.
Family Involvement
Family involvement is essential for both day students and
students in residence. Parents of day students receive periodic
academic progress reports and are encouraged to maintain regular
contact with RHA school personnel to monitor student progress
in the broader sense. In addition to receiving academic progress
reports and maintaining regular phone contact with both their
adolescent and RHA personnel, parents of students in residence
are also required to participate in face-to-face quarterly
review conferences on campus. Family Therapy
occurs bi-monthly and is fundamental to sustained efficacy
in functioning in both the family arena and the community
at large. Sessions are conducted either in person on the Red
Hill Academy campus or via telephone conference calls.
Additional Core Services
Additional core services include initial and ongoing assessment,
crisis stabilization (provided on an as needed basis), and
weekly consultation involving the student, the student's case
manager, and an agency therapist.
Other Available Services
Neuropsychological testing is available on a fee-for-service
basis and is provided by an experienced psychologist in the
local community. Other mental health treatment components
include psychiatric services for clients with diagnosed conditions
amenable to psychopharmacological intervention and individual
therapy for students whose issues and concerns cannot be adequately
or appropriately addressed in group or family therapy settings.
Individual therapy is provided by Red Hill Academy therapists
on a fee-for-service basis. Clients requiring a psychiatric
assessment and/or medication monitoring are referred to psychiatrists
in the local community. Arrangements for service provision,
including associated fees, are the responsibility of the family
with Red Hill Academy staff facilitating transportation to
and from appointments. RHA case managers ensure coordination
of care between all internal and external service providers.
